The emergency residential locksmith is the unsung hero of the women who have been locked out of their houses late at night when there is no one home. This Don Quixote in a workman’s van or pick-up truck is such a welcome sight as she is sitting in her driveway with all the doors locked just knowing that there’s some guy out there waiting to pounce.
Meanwhile, the locksmith is the ultimate professional, never questioning why this lady who is dressed to the nines didn’t think to take her house key with her when she took her car key off the ring so it would fit into that cute little clutch. He just gets down to business setting up a work light since she also forgot to leave the porch light on and then sizing up her front door lock to see which tools he’ll need.
He efficiently gathers all his tools together and sets to work, while she keeps up the chatter about, “… how sorry she is to drag him about at this hour and will he take a check because she doesn’t have any cash, but she’s good for it, honest, and, oh, shoot, she broke a heel, and this has been the worst night..”.
He continues to work, calmly working with the door lock until he gets it open and tells her she can go on in the house. He goes to pack up his tools, thinking to himself how funny life can be. Just that afternoon, he had replaced the dead bolt on his daughter’s apartment door and made sure it was one that couldn’t be opened from the outside once the key was turned inside. That’s what this young woman needed. That flimsy lock she had on her front door could be opened by anyone. She probably could have opened it herself if she had thought about it.
She comes back outside with her checkbook and asks him how much she owes him. He tells her and she looks at him in surprise and says, “That seems like a lot!” He stares at her a moment and then says, “Well, Ma’am, it is 1:30 AM in the morning and you did call me because you were locked out of your house. It sounded like you needed my help to get into your house, so I drove out here to provide that help to you. You are now able to enter your house because of my help. I have the skills, tools, and ability to lock you out of your house again. Would you prefer to pay me or should I reverse my work? It is your choice. She paid him for his work.
